Did you Know that “You Need To” is a Powerful Keyword Phrase?
I always thought that you should not tell people what to do. However, recently I tested a Google AdWords ad where I did the opposite. I created two ads for the same Ad Group and the only change in the Google AdWords ad is that in one I started out by saying “You Need To”:
What was the result?
Well, not surprisingly, the click-through-rate actually went down. That makes sense to me because I would have guessed that the ad is less appealing. After all, nobody likes to be ordered what they need to do.
However, what was very surprising is that the conversion rate (people that signed up for the free lessons) shot up by a whopping 118%!
That is fantastic and more than made up for the small drop in the click-through-rate.
What is even more amazing is that I have been trying to beat the “Losing Ad” for a very long time and only by testing something that I never thought might actually work did I stumble upon an even more powerful ad.

You think 51 clicks is enough of a sample size?
Yes, its enough but this one is a close call. The reason it is enough is because there is such a big difference in the conversion rate. The bigger the difference, the smaller the sample size that is needed to know whether the difference is statistically significant.
